Website Maintenance

Your website stays secure, updated and fast — while you run the business

A website is not an appliance you install once. Left alone it drifts out of date, out of security patches and eventually out of service — and the damage is usually discovered by a customer, not by you.

Maintenance is the ongoing work that keeps yours patched, backed up, monitored and easy to change. It is the line most quotes leave out, and the one that decides whether your site is still earning in two years.

What's included

Everything below runs on a fixed cycle, whether or not anything looks wrong that month. That is the point — you are paying for problems that never reach your customers.

Updates & backups

CMS core, theme and plugin updates applied on a staging copy first, so a bad release never lands on your live site. Full file and database backups are taken on a schedule, stored off the server, and periodically test-restored — because an untested backup is only a hope.

Security monitoring

Malware and file-integrity scanning, login hardening, brute-force and spam-bot filtering, abandoned plugin removal, and a watch on SSL certificate expiry. If something injects spam pages or a rogue admin user appears, we find it before Google does.

Content changes

Price updates, new photos, a changed phone number, a seasonal banner, a staff addition, a new page — send it in plain language and we make the edit. No learning the admin panel, no fear of breaking the layout, no waiting for a separate quote on a ten-minute job.

Uptime checks

Automated checks run from outside your network at short intervals and alert us the moment the site stops responding, the SSL fails, or the server starts returning errors. You should not learn your site is down from a customer on WhatsApp.

Speed & health checks

Sites get slower quietly — uncompressed images pile up, the database fills with revisions and expired transients, caching drifts out of configuration. We check Core Web Vitals and clean the build-up so performance does not decay month after month.

Form & checkout testing

Every cycle we submit your contact form, click the WhatsApp and call buttons, and run a test order through checkout to confirm the email actually arrives and payment actually completes. Broken lead forms are the most expensive failure on any site, and the most silent.

How we work

The same sequence every month, documented every time. Predictable beats heroic.

  1. Onboarding audit & baseline

Before anything is scheduled we take a full audit: hosting and DNS setup, CMS and plugin versions, existing backups, security posture, and what is already broken. You get that written baseline first, so you know what state your site is in and what will be fixed in the first month.

  2. Staging first, then live

Updates are applied to a staging copy of your site, where we check the pages that matter — homepage, key landing pages, checkout, forms — before touching production. Only once staging is clean do the same updates go live, with a fresh backup taken immediately beforehand.

  3. The monthly cycle

Each cycle runs the same checklist: backups verified, core and plugins updated, malware and integrity scan, speed and Core Web Vitals check, broken link sweep, form and checkout test. Doing it in the same order every month is what stops small problems accumulating into a rebuild.

  4. Content change requests

Send changes to your maintenance channel by email or WhatsApp, in whatever words are natural to you — attach the photo, tell us the new price. Requests are queued and confirmed back to you when the change is live, so nothing sits in a thread nobody owns.

  5. When something breaks

If uptime monitoring alerts or you report a problem, we triage first: is it hosting, a plugin conflict, a bad edit, or an attack? We restore from the most recent clean backup where that is the fastest safe route, then fix the root cause so the same failure does not repeat next month.

Who this is for

If any of these sound like your site, maintenance is not optional for you — it is overdue.

The store that lost checkout for a week

A WooCommerce shop where a payment plugin auto-updated, the gateway stopped returning customers to the confirmation page, and nobody noticed until orders dried up. Staging updates and a monthly test order exist precisely for this.

The site nobody has logged into since launch

A clinic, law firm or service business whose site was built a couple of years ago and handed over. The plugins are years out of date, the admin password is in an old email, and no one is sure a backup exists at all.

The business that has already been hacked

The site that started serving spam pages in someone else's language, got flagged in Google Search Console, and had to be cleaned in a panic. Cleanup is a one-off; not being reinfected is a monthly habit.

The owner who is afraid to touch it

A coaching centre, restaurant or showroom that needs notices, prices and photos changed regularly, but leaves the site frozen because one wrong click broke a page once. Someone else should be making those edits.

What you get

Maintenance is invisible when it works, so we make it visible. Here is exactly what lands in your inbox.

  • A written onboarding audit of your site's current state, before the first cycle runs
  • A monthly maintenance report: what was updated, what was scanned, what was fixed
  • Off-server backups with dated restore points, and a documented restore procedure
  • An update log showing every core, theme and plugin version change applied
  • Uptime summary for the month, including any downtime and what caused it
  • Security scan results, with anything removed or blocked spelled out plainly
  • Confirmation on every content change once it is live on the site
  • A named channel for requests and emergencies — not a general inbox
  • Your own credentials and access, documented and handed over; nothing is held hostage

Exact cycle frequency, response windows and content-change allowances are set out in your plan before work begins — nothing is assumed.

Questions owners actually ask

My website is working fine — why should I pay every month?

Because maintenance is not about what is broken today, it is about what breaks quietly. Plugins go unsupported, security patches go unapplied, a form stops delivering email, an SSL certificate expires on a Friday night. The month you notice something is wrong is usually months after it started costing you.

Can I just call you when something breaks instead of paying monthly?

You can, and we will help. But emergency work is slower and more expensive than prevention: no recent backup to restore from, no baseline to compare against, and a live site under pressure. A hacked site cleanup is a project; keeping a site from being hacked is a routine.

How quickly do you respond when the site goes down?

Uptime alerts reach us automatically, so we usually know before you do. Response windows are agreed in writing before we start, and they differ for a full outage versus a small content edit — [Insert response time commitment]. We will not promise a number here that your plan does not actually cover.

How many content changes are included?

Small edits — text, prices, images, contact details, adding a page from existing templates — are covered under an agreed monthly allowance, [Insert monthly content change allowance]. Anything larger, such as a new custom page design, a new feature or a redesign, is quoted separately so you always know what falls inside the plan.

Does maintenance include new features or a redesign?

No, and no honest maintenance plan does. Maintenance keeps what exists working, secure and current. New sections, custom functionality, integrations and redesigns are development work — we quote them separately, and we will tell you when a request has crossed that line rather than doing it and invoicing you afterwards.

Who owns the hosting, domain and backups?

You do. We work inside your hosting and domain accounts, or set them up in your name if they do not exist yet. Backups are stored where you can reach them, and all credentials are documented and shared with you. If you ever stop working with us, you leave with everything.

Will maintenance improve my Google rankings?

Not directly — maintenance is not SEO, and anyone selling it as such is stretching. What it does is protect the rankings you already have: downtime, slow pages, broken links and malware infections all damage search visibility, sometimes badly. Growing rankings is separate work.
